Dean Griggs

Dean Griggs has over 20 years’ experience working with people and communities, holding a wide range of high-profile leadership roles in local government.
Dean was most recently General Manager at Derwent Valley Council in Tasmania, with executive roles at City of Melbourne and City of Darebin in Melbourne’s north. In these senior roles, Dean has provided trusted advice to lord mayors, councillors, parliamentarians, senior government officials and business leaders.
Over his career Dean has developed and delivered multiple strategies in disciplines as varied as emergency management, homelessness, city safety and advocacy campaigns. In 2015 Dean led City of Melbourne’s response to extreme heat with the city’s vulnerable populations. This resulted in an innovative program replicated across many Australian capital cities.
As Municipal Recovery Manager from 2010 – 2019, Dean led the City of Melbourne’s response to the Docklands high rise apartment fire and both Bourke Street 2017 and 2018 incidents. In Tasmania, Dean provided advisory support to the Hillcrest Tragedy Recovery efforts.
Dean holds a Master of Business Administration, a Bachelor of Behavioural Sciences, a Graduate Diploma in Health Promotion and is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors
