QLD Community Disaster Risk and Resilience Index
Client: RACQ and The Resilience Canopy
Australia has built strong foundations in resilience frameworks and measurement tools, yet significant gaps remain. ResilientCo and The Resilience Canopy are addressing this challenge by developing the Queensland Disaster Risk and Resilience Index, a comprehensive and inclusive tool designed to help communities and decision-makers better understand and respond to these gaps.
Grounded in the Resilient Communities Framework, the Index combines hazard exposure data with five resilience environments: social, economic, natural, built, and health and safety. This integrated approach reveals the relative exposure, resilience, and risk facing communities across the state. The Index draws on a broad range of authoritative data sources, including the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Geoscience Australia, the Digital Atlas of Australia, the Social Health Atlases of Australia, and ANU TERN, ensuring findings are robust and evidence-based. Through a combination of spatial and non-spatial analysis, the Index pinpoints hotspots of exposure, resilience, and risk at a community level across Queensland.
Findings will be made accessible through an intuitive, user-friendly dashboard where users can explore their local area, compare communities, and download tailored reports.
